As part of our commitment to helping veterans and their families, Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs would like to remind our supporters and recipients of the CTU Patriot Scholarship.
What is the CTU Patriot Scholarship?
In 2008, a commendable initiative was taken by the Colorado Technical University: the creation of a scholarship aimed at reciprocating the noble sacrifices made by our United States Armed Forces members. The devastating effect of an injury obtained while in service often extends beyond the individual service member.
Recognizing this, CTU commits to awarding fifty such scholarships annually to deserving injured soldiers, their spouses, non-medical attendants, caregivers, and dependents.
As the year 2023 came to a close on December 31st, the university had proudly granted a staggering 800 scholarships, representing an incredible investment of over $20 million in the lives of those impacted by service-related injuries.
Mary Jo Brandt, COO of Guardian Angels, and Her Experience with CTU
Our Chief Operating Officer, Mary Jo Brandt, was awarded two CTU Patriot scholarships and has used them to further her education.
“It’s a wonderful program for people who are veterans, family members of veterans, or non-medical caregivers,” Mary Jo said. As a daughter and non-medical caregiver of a Vietnam Veteran, Mary Jo chose Colorado Technical University to further her education, which she said was motivated by the CTU Patriot Scholarship.
She was able to apply for the scholarship and received a full scholarship, which included tuition, books, and a laptop. Using these tools, Mary Jo received her Master’s in Business Administration and has received a second scholarship, allowing her to pursue her Doctorate.
Those interested in this scholarship can use the scholarship to pursue associate, bachelor, and doctoral degrees. Once enrolled, students will work with a success coach who can check in with them and ensure they are on track. “They are very much a school that wants to help their students succeed,” Mary Jo said.
Am I Eligible to Apply for the CTU Patriot Scholarship?
This opportunity is open to active-duty service members and honorably discharged veterans from the United States Armed Forces.
If you have or are receiving medical treatment for service-related disabilities, and your disability rating is 30% or higher, you are eligible. Furthermore, they welcome applications from spouses, non-medical attendants, caregivers, and dependents ready for college.
But remember, you’ll need to meet CTU’s eligibility criteria and show proof of your high school graduation or an equivalent qualification.
