Today, we see help wanted signs everywhere. Some businesses have even closed their doors because they can’t get enough help. Fortunately, Guardian Angels Medical Services Dogs has maintained very faithful, reliable employees. Despite the challenges of the past couple of years, we needed to hire more great people because of our continued growth.
We knew we didn’t want to go through the normal processes of just posting an ad. Our jobs here are not just for a paycheck. We seriously impact the lives of others, so we wanted to find passionate people like ourselves that wanted more meaning in their jobs. Thus, we chose to have a career day where people could come out, see our facility in action, talk to some of our staff members about what working there meant to them, know who we are and what we do. This allowed us to interact with and interview the applicants, and they got to do the same with us.
It was important to find people who wanted meaning in their life – something they may not have gotten in their jobs previously. What we do is so incredibly important. Each of us is responsible for giving people their lives back, by regaining dignity and independence through our amazing dogs and the life-changing, even life-saving tasks they can provide. Regardless of what role you play in our organization, it is extremely rewarding and critical to others. We have an impact on the disabled individual, their families, and communities. That’s a big responsibility.
We wanted people who shared our passion and found them! We had an excellent turn out enabling us to hire a lot of new people. They will be vital in helping us continue to expand the company and help more deserving individuals.
Mrs. Borden’s expertise and accomplishments are acknowledged by numerous national awards from various industries and agencies including the 2018 Corporate Pet Industry Woman of the Year and multiple awards for her organization’s work in mental health and suicide prevention.
She is frequently requested as a Keynote Speaker, and as an Industry Consultant to teach service dog laws to judicial systems, attorneys, and businesses, and to assist in service dog bills in multiple states that were passed into law. In 2020, she started an Institute for Higher Learning and the Borden Veterinary Hospital. Additionally, she has written and teaches college-accredited/VA-approved apprenticeship courses on dog training and service dog training.
