I am a Navy veteran who served 18.5 years before being medically retired. In April 2024, I was paired with my service dog, Josie. There was a time in my life when I enjoyed going places on my own. But, as time went on, I slowly stopped doing things for myself and by myself. If I did have to go anywhere, I would generally have panic attacks before and during the outing. I would also make my family go with me, especially my husband Mike, who is also a veteran.
Since getting Josie, my life has changed. I have slowly learned to trust the outside world again. I have fewer panic attacks and can do things like go to the store by myself. I had forgotten what it is like to do things alone. Now, I can enjoy the quiet again. Things in my head have slowed down, and I am at peace. I look forward to working with my hands and being creative, which I never thought I would fully do again and enjoy. Who knows what life has in store for my family and me? All I know is that God has my back because he gave me Josie. I hope you will consider helping another veteran like me get their own Guardian Angels’ service dog.
