Marty is an Army veteran who was stationed in the Suni triangle of Iraq in 2004-2005. After returning home, Marty developed PTSD. He says: “I couldn’t function. I experienced nightmares, and self-isolation. Being in public spaces was incredibly difficult for me, driving became an issue as well.
In December of 2017, things began to change for the better. I was paired with my medical service dog, GP. GP is an energetic guy that loves to work…and who loves belly rubs just as much! GP has changed EVERYTHING. He shields me from behind when we are in public, which has made a huge difference in my ability to be out in public. He senses the nightmares and wakes me up – essentially – my nightmares have stopped.
Since being paired with GP, I have traveled, I’ve been a guest speaker at large events – speaking to over 300 people! My medication has been eliminated and I’m sleeping better too.”
