Brian Vines attended college at Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, Texas, and graduated as a Distinguished Military Graduate from the Reserve Officers Training Corps in 1984. His first assignment as an Infantry Second Lieutenant was to the 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina In 1988, Colonel Vines attended the Special Forces Officers Qualification Course and began his career as a Green Beret. He has served in the 1st and 2nd battalions of the 5th Special Forces Group including participation in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm as an ODA Commander. Brian’s other assignments include Special Operations and conventional assignments in the U.S. and Korea. He has deployed extensively throughout the Middle East, East Africa, and Asia, including two combat deployments to Iraq. Brian’s last assignment was as the Deputy Commander of the 1st Special Forces Group, Joint Base Lewis McChord, Washington. Colonel Vines retired from the Army on 1 October 2012 after 28 years of distinguished service. He is married to the former Miss Natalie Tanecka of Plano, Texas. Lieutenant Colonel Natalie Vines was medically retired from the Army on 17 January 2013 due to injuries suffered in Iraq. Brian is her full time caregiver. Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs was gracious enough to provide Natalie with a Medical Service Dog named Captain. He helps her with seizure detection, balance issues, and severe Post Traumatic Stress. Captain has saved her live on multiple occasions and is a true guardian angel to Natalie. The Vines family reside in The Villages, Florida and spend their free time volunteering with veteran service organizations and enjoying the Florida outdoors.
